More than 150 tonnes of food distributed at Mestalla to those in need
At the end of May, Valencia CF made Mestalla available to the Banco de Acción Solidaria charity so that, with the help of the CaixaBank volunteer programme, it could be converted into a distribution point for food to those in need. Non-perishable foodstuffs were provided by the Banco de Alimentos de Valencia foodbank, and pre-cooked meals donated by the ‘Chefs for Spain’ initiative by World Central Kitchen and chef José Andrés.
This project, part of the #AmuntWorld programme, is one of the main means through which Valencia CF have helped those in the region during the COVID-19 pandemic. It has produced some impressive numbers in just over two months, with more than 150 tonnes of food distributed to a total of 7,477 people, an average of 20.34kg per person. Some 2,266 families have been assisted by the initiative.
Over the 10 distribution dates made so far at Mestalla, which sees the stadium open its doors twice a week, on alternate weeks, 2,783kg of food for children and 19,460kg of foodstuffs have been distributed in daily menus.
The activity will resume after the summer, with the aim of continuing to help those most in need in the fight against one of the main consequences of the COVID-19 crisis. The club’s intention is to renew the agreement with the Banco de Alimentos in the coming months.
HOW TO DONATE TO THE BANCO DE ALIMENTOS
Whilst those in Spain can contribute directly through supermarket deliveries or personally bringing goods to the foodbank, those overseas can donate through two different methods:
A bank transfer to LA CAIXA ES86 2100 2806 64 0200098998 , or a payment through BIZUM with the code 38400.
